warded, pin tumbler, disc detainer lock all in one?

Postby Scowt » 28 May 2013 13:51

I'm a bit of an inventor on the side and I've also been picking for about a month now. And I'm wondering about making a lock that could be extremely difficult and maybe near impossible to pick.

I'm thinking of one where the lock has almost stages with in it. Mind you this may be hard to follow, but still I think it could work. The key would look funky mind you but if its as hard as I'm imagining it could be worth it. I'm saying the front of the lock is a disc detainer style lock which the shaft of the key would operate. But essentially it would be inserted upside down first. The tip of the key would be like a normal pin tumbler or even like the medeco chiseled tip type so when you insert it the tip of the key passes through a ward in the back half of the lock then after a 180 it operates pins at the top but it would come at them from the side rather than a traditional key goes from the front. then you unlock or lock the actual lock by turning another 180. Only in one direction though to both lock and unlock it though. The bolt would be on a simple ratchet system used by ammnras hidden blade on YouTube.

So any thoughts or questions?

The key would be almost L shaped.

You say you're an engineer, maybe craft something up in SolidWorks or similar software; I like to use my calipers and draft up my locks and doors. It can help you understand how things are put together!
