...with a flat blade screwdriver.

A little background - the phone went about two hours ago, it was a local national electronics store, with a problem. The high value cage was broken, and they needed in!

I spent an age trying to park, and an age waiting for them to come let me in (at least parking was free!) and I roll up to the steel cage.

The key was snapped. So I took a look, couldn't get the key out, couldn't even get a shim in past the weird runners in the dimple profile (which I think are there to stop impressioning tricks) or the specially shaped pins, so I pushed it in a little more, and turned it with my Swiss Army Knife! Spun it round, popped it open. :-) If that hadn't worked, it would have been a drill job. But they don't care, they just wanted it open, and maintainance will swap the lock on Monday.

Yes, the title is just there so you read this! ;-)

Same really with any snapped key if it's to the end of the barrel. I never try to get the key out first if you have to open up, usually you only have to pick a pin/wafer or two as the rest are set...
