Rusty dirty locks

Postby Buzzzy » 21 Apr 2006 13:06

I picked up a pro grade ultrasonic cleaner with heater element at a flea market. I only paid $5 for it, and it has worked out great.

I can leave a couple of crusty locks in the tank overnight, and in the morning after a shot of good lube they are very useable.

This works so well not only because of a good deep cleaning, it also flushes out most of the crud. The solvent becomes very muddy.

This has added a lot of locks to my collection, at very little cost.

Regards

are you talking about the type of ultrasonic cleaner used by jewelers to clean jewelry?

If so, I have one of those, but have never considered cleaning locks with it.

Sounds like a good idea!

This may have been intended for the jewelers trade, it would have been the heavy duty model.

I have also seen this type of device offered by machine tool supply houses

ahhh, ok, I know what you're talking about. What I have is much smaller and would only hold 1 lock at a time, but I'm still gonna try it on a couple of my extremely dirty locks. I just have a small ultrasonic jewelry cleaner, but if it'll vibrate all the crud out of a basket full of jewelry I don't see why it wouldn't vibrate all the crud out of a lock.

I'll post how the jewelry cleaner works after I try it.
