The NEW master lock

Postby Krypos » 10 May 2006 19:02

there are two variations of master combo locks. the method of finding the combo via sticking points doesnt seem to work worth cr4p on the newer locks. the older ones work really well, but the newer ones (ie about 1996 and up) are seemingly impervious to this method.

can anyone tell me WHY this is and also HOW to overcome it?

thanks a bunch.

ps- they can be shimmed, however not always.

By new do you mean Spheros? Why didn't you just put this in your Sphero thread?

The newer ones use a last tumbler with many false gates and a larger diameter than the other tumblers.

The latest and greatest combo locks by master are the titanium series or some crap like that, and believe or not they actually use a heel and toe ball bearing locking system so you can't shim them

The master combos made after 1996 can be cracked using a different numerical method. Master added a few features making it much harder to read by pulling the shackle, but they can still be cracked.

However, I think bypass methods such as that is advanced material. Someone clarify.

I can post the method if it isn't advanced (although I'm fairly certain it is).

It's not. The 'combination locks' of the advanced section refers to combination SAFE LOCKS, like Sargent&Greenleaf, Diebold, Lagard, etc., not el cheapo combination padlocks like master. There's been about 5 billion threads on how to crack combo master locks using the method mentioned...Or better yet, just use a dam$ed shim...

The newer locks have false cuts in the cam making it hard to feal the wich numbers will actualy open the lock. Although it may be impractical you can spin the dial while pulling on the shackle to wear down the falce cuts (use a modified drill or somthing, it will take forever by hand) and eventualy you will be aible to feal which numbers will open the lock.

however I agree shim it if you can.

combo lock

Postby Wolfman » 16 May 2006 21:32

I took apart a el cheapo famaly dollar combo lock because, for the life of me, i just couldent manipulate the thing. Well, i was surprised to find that the very last looked like a cog (ya know, a gear) cept it had flatter teeth. I'll see if i cant get a pic of it.

Hope this told you something, lol.

Here ya go.

The one in the middle (near the glare) is the one i was talking about. The ones to its right are the other two tumblers. The nickel is just for size comparison.

NOTE: The cog looking one is made of brass, the others are aluminum.

I belive this is the reason the dial wont turn very far when you are trying to manipulate most new(ish) locks. It just catches and you have to ease tention on the shackle to get past them. Very anoying.

 Yes, they are alittle bent. I tore it apart with a hammer and screwdriver.

Hope this helped someone.
