I've never bought anything more than a basic set as a complete kit. Once I got a feel for which tools I liked I just looked for a couple variations of them (Slim line feeler, ball reach pick, ect). I picked up a larger SouthOrd zipper case and handpicked a number of picks and wrenches that I wanted to try later on. So far I haven't needed to get crazy making tension wrenches but I'm sure that will come once I get a few locks that don't work well with what I have on hand.

I do keep an extra set of picks in my case so that I don't have to let n00bs learn on my nice tools though.

Heh, I use a video camera bag for my 'locksport bag'. It's got a thick sturdy handle and the walls and bottom are all cushioned so that my 20lbs of locks don't destroy and maim every surface they come in contact with.

If you can afford it, probably the best pick set is the Falle pick set. The quality is great and so are the picks, but the best thing about this set is the incredible number of tension tools and the variety of tension tools.

I went for the HPC Superior set with 32 pieces - but I've just separately ordered the 5 best and most used in stainless steel with rubber handles. It worked out cheaper than buying the stainless set and I've got loads more picks to go at and the most used ones with comfortable handles.
