Union Double Cylinder

Alright chaps, I bought myself a union double cylinder lock (for those double glazed back doors) to mess about with as i was getting far too familiar with one type of lock, which is unhealthy.

Just wondering what peoples thoughts are on them? I've lost my tension tool, so am as yet unable to have a go with it....but i recall having a go on one ages ago to no avail.

Any ideas what type of pin setup it has? security pins at all?

I've picked it a few times...just when i was about to give up. Requires the most gentle touch and minute tensioning.

Nice lock & very precise feeling. Seen as its a double, i might make one half a cutaway

I have about 4 of the unions couple of euros and ovals each (but its the same internals) I really like them as a lock to pick. im not overly sure on them as a door lock but they are very nice to play with.

Im not sure about security pins on these. i would assume they have at least 2 spools but you have to use such light tension its impossible to find the things.

if you feel you know it overly well im sure there are some members that would like to trade a lock for one. As for cutaways I really dont think they would make a good cutway. everything is silky smooth in them and i think a cutaway might change the feel of the lock. and whats the point of a cutaway that doesn't react the same as the original

I've picked maybe 30 of them and I haven't run across one that had security pins, bar one where a lockie had clearly added some later on.

They aren't too hard... Slightly harder when they've been used and are dirty, but nothing major.

Medium tension helps you feel the pins setting, and works fairly well with these locks.

I have a cut-away of one... Nothing special tbh, but if you want to make one, go for one of the oval ones to make it look cool.

I would post pics, but I don't have any way to get photos from my digicam to my computer.

The unions i use / pin up daily have spools, and a side bar (DTEC) depends what your talking about. most bog std unions are easy to pick, with a big keyway.

I've had it a few more times since my last post, This is still without a tension wrench Just using my thumb on the centre bar which is bad habits to be getting in to.

Hopefully my pickset will be here tomorrow and i can have a proper go

P.s Thanks illusion, I may well be asking your advice on making a cutaway if it comes down to it, I just don't find the time these days with work to get my hands dirty ith my locks anymore
