I have like 12 different bump keys, M1, M4, M10, M11, M12, M16 etc..but im not sure which keys would go with which locks\keyways. Im confused. Im gonna go buy a bunch of locks to try them out but im not sure which locks I need. Are all my keys for "masterlock" padlocks. I mean for example the M11 key should I just google M11 to see what it says as far as what lock that is. Im sorry if this is a stupid question and if I posted in the wrong place. I am such a noob Im just unsure about the whole thing. Is the M1 key for just a couple different Masterlocks and the M11 for a few others ? are they for different locks then masterlock brands? Any help understanding is appreciated very much. I heard that if the key fits into the lock keyway then itll work, but....... Is there some pdf or somewhere i can go that will explain what each key I have will work on which locks?

The M1 is the most popular padlock key. Not only master locks use it. Most Brinks locks, and several other brands use the M1. I have never seen a padlock yet that uses any of the other Master keyways.

Since the m1 is the most popular what would all the other "M" keys go to then? If youve only seen the M1 keyway on all padlocks then im feeling like ive wasted money getting the other ones. do manufactures use diffent keyways? like American uses M4 and yale maybe M11?

American has their own keys, not sure about Yale. Yale locks are not that common around here. I'm guessing they don't use the Y1 key, but I don't know for sure. The higher end Brinks padlocks use the American keyway. As for the other master keys you have, hand onto them, you may find a use for them someday, mabye a nice bracelet for the wife.

The origional question was asking about padlocks and I believe that is what he was answering with his comments. The yale 997 key (along with quite a few others less commonly) is what would be used for utility function locks like a padlock though I can't recall seeing a yale keyway padlock right now .
The other master keys the OP has are used on the higher end padlocks by master that are not as common because they are over $20 for the lock. You didn't waste money on the various keys you got you wasted money because there are easier ways to just open a padlock just for opening sake. A bump key is not going to help you do anything other than open the lock. You certainly won't learn a thing from them.

J-Hood is right. For the keyways I was refering specifically to padlocks.
