Any tips for upside down locks?

hey again!
Ok, after one day of practicing just about constantly, I can pick every lick in my house except one deadbolt

but i just tried turning my practice lock upside down, and got stumped. I took out all the pins and used only 2, and it was still tough!

it seems that the pins get pushed too far down, and you have to untension and start all over. Any tips, or is there something im missing?

well upside down locks are quite easy. well it depend on pin sizes, smaller pins are generaly harder to pickbut its still the sam as picking right side up..keep trying

When the pins are upside down, ie in the standard Euro configuration, you are deprived, in part, to the feedback gravity gives you when a pin is picked. This definately takes some getting used to. I tend to pick all my locks in the standard American "pins up" configuration, as to be most familiar with one style of picking.

If your deadbolt is installed "pins down" it may have accumulated a good deal of dirt and grime in the pin chambers. Try giving it a good cleaning, lube job.

I have the same problem picking a brinks padlock while it is upside down. I find using very very light tension(similar to that used to sec. pins) on both the pick and the wrench works best. I slightly "jiggle"(lite, rapid twist's from right to left, while pick is between two fingers) using a thin hook.(dental pick, slimline) I also increase and decrease the wrench pressure. it feels as if your seperating the key and driver pin,rather then just catching the edge of the driver pin and having the plug slightly turn.
Anyone ever hear of this before?

hey i always pick locks upside dwn its easy what i do is push teh pick on top of teh lock and point it dwn useing the top of teh lock as pressure i pull teh pick across raking or i go pin by pin jsu liek poping teh pick a long
this is a little confusing i hope undestand me it will really help it helped me

On a more pertinent note:
Upside down locks vary a lot. Some are easy and some seem to be a whole different ball game. The best advice is to use very light tension and practice like a mofo. Also try avoiding BiGD440o3's advice. People who brag about how easy it is and how that's the only way they do it usually have only done it once or never at all.

The reason its turning a little is that it probably has spool pins. This turning means you have set the spool. Feel each of the pins with your pick and you will find that if you apply slight pressure on certain pins the barrel will try to turn back. Lift that pin up until it sets properly and check to see if any others are the same until its picked.

Im starting to like finding this slight turn as you find are normally close to picking the lock.

The upside down locks are normally euro profile and ive found to have more success raking these than with individual pin picking.
