Picking 2 lever lock (movies)

Postby serpih » 4 Jul 2009 17:01

I have spend my day, making a pick to lever lock, in fact I have made 2 the first one have some technical problems.

So this one is the 2°

Image

i have made this pick to a specific brand, when i have finished i have tried open the lock but with no success.

I take a key blanc and the webcam and i start making a key by Impressioning

but that wasn't enough and i have search one other lock from the same brand, and this time i have picked the lock.

This kind of picks are very expensive about 150 dollars and most part of brand needs a specific one.

how did you make the picktips, are they soldered to the tubes or are they machined from the same metal piece? I noticed that the handle is a part of some kind of table ware.

At the beginning i was thinking make the pick with key blancs,
one in iron to make the "tension part of the pick" (we need apply a big tension)and one in brass to make the part of the pick used to align the levers (easier to drill and to align the levers you don't need a pick very hard)

But i have fond a little problem with the iron key blanc , not big enough, i have some problem to soldering to increase the pick , so i have made a new one with a bit of iron.

like this

I have cut and filed the iron after a have tempered the iron.

to the brass pick i have soldered the wheel, i have drill one piece brass, I have passed the pick and i have used tin to soldering.

My English is not very good and i think we have a problem with the title.

(If someone could change that will be nice, because I can't edit the title )

Each lock i have picked in the movies have 4 levers.

This is the key i have made by Impressioning

Image

If we look carefully we see I have made 4 differents cuts to allow to open the lock.

Other thing, the original key will look like this

Image

(I have used a software to create this image i don't have the key for this lock)

In fact for this lock when you are outside, only the part made by impressioning will open the lock, the other half is necessary to open the lock when you are inside.

You went to a lot of trouble to cut that piece of iron out of a piece of scrap, but now that I see the key, I wonder if the key could not be cut down to make part of the pick, That is what I would explore if I had that lock and some keyblanks or keys that can be cut to shape.

the first pick I have made was a short iron key, she costs 10 dollars and I have soldering to have some more length.

To have one bigger you need 20 dollars for each key blank,
and at the end you have to file anyway.
