Master pro shackleless?

Ok so i bought one of these little babies after i got through my abus diskus lock. I read the discription and liked the idea of 6 pins so i decided to give it a shot. Well After several hours of trying i am out of luck. I went were i ussually do when i am stuck. HERE! I searched around and did not find anything about this lock. So i thought i would join and ask if anyone has had any luck with this thing.

I also have been working with a best SFIC pad lock. I am having trouble, i have an I-Core tension wrench, but i am having trouble getting it open or even getting the SFIC out.

A question on the best lock, if i get the core out, can i open the lock? or do i have to decode the SFIC?

any help would be great, if these things are not something that should be posted just say so and i will understand. I love this hobby it is such a puzzle!

I have picked 3 different shackleless locks. 2 master and 1 american brand. The american had serrated and spools, of course! :) The two master were kinda wierd. One had a nice open keyway and the other was a bit more restrictive.. The restrictive one was a pro series and it had security pins of some sort. The other one may have been a pro series as well, but I picked it first try in just over a minute. I think the pro series had six pins and the other one five.. I can't remember..

If you have picked an ABUS diskus style lock, then you can figure out how to get those shackleless open.. Just a different feel.. Use the key a few times to see what the lock feels like and adjust your tension to match the force required to turn the key. This will give you a good starting point :) You'll get it!

The BEST SFIC are strange beasts.. Mine had six or seven pins and took me like ten minutes to open although I could get it consistently... I picked the control shear line by accident a few times (very rarely) and the core popped out into my hand. :) Scared me the first time.. Evidentally this has happened to others as well! :) Do a search for "SFIC" and you will undoubtedly find more information..

To answer your question about opening the lock with the core popped out. Yes you can open the lock with the core popped out! :) Pop out the core and take a look inside the lock. You'll figure it out really quickly! ;) You do have the control key, right? (I didn't, but I only got my lock because the key had been lost in the first place)

Don't forget to search and read every topic that looks interesting to you. They should all be somewhat interesting.. (There are a few exceptions sometimes, hehe) :)

If you are new, Welcome, good luck, try not to pick locks without permission and most of all have fun! :)

Best style SFIC padlocks can be a beast if they've been outside for any length of time. The best advice I can give is to clean the lock thoroughly. The control lugs on SFIC locks are always stiffer than just opening the locks...It gets much worse after they've been installed for a while because they never move after installation. Clean the cylinder and lube it with a teflon or silicone based lubricant and the control lug will turn a little easier. You'll also get a much better feel for what the pins are doing when the lock is clean and lubed.

Excellent advice, Randmguy! :) My lock was pretty clean and it still took a long time to open! The tolerances seem to be pretty tight, or things get caught at the wrong shear line a lot.. I don't think that this lock even had security pins at all! I tried WD-40 as a picking aid and not a lube and it may have helped more as a cleaner than anything else.. I sprayed it with tri-flow lube after I flushed with WD.. (Tri-flow is silicone I think!?) That seems to work ok for me.. I'd recomend cleaning with something other than WD-40 if possible, of course! :)

With BEST, you really have to keep picking at 'em, but they open eventually. :)

would a can of air work to clean the lock out?

The master pro key seems to stick a bit, like the diskus i have it is a little tough. Feels like it is a dead bolt lock.

Also i am getting new picks and a feather light tension wrench  (is it right that this makes me so happy?) and i wanted to know if the feather wrench will help more with spool and mushroom pins, i have heard it helps but how much? right now I just usevery light tension, opening that abus was a pain in my side until i got the tension just right!

and thanks for the warm welcome, feels almost as nice as when you feel the tension wrench give way to turn the plug, love that feeling... wow i'm wierd!

THANKS ALL

Cheers

I have never tried spraying alock with air, it might help, but it might also get some dirt lodged in hard to reach places. :)

Congratulations on the new tools! I make my own tension tools ans haven't tried the feather touch tool. I have heard both good and bad about them, but I would like to try one out sometime.. Maybe I can make something close with some wire... You definitely want light tenstion for ABUS and other locks with security pins! If the feaather touch gets you there, then it is an excellent tool! Try the ABUS with your feather touch and see what you think, personally! This hobby is really all about you! Tell us what you think of it, and describe how it was different for you!

A lot of locks do not take much to turn the plug and you will be able to turn it with a light wrench such as the feather wrench. but you may want to have a screwdriver or a heavier wrench handy just in case! :) I have been using light wrenches made from hairpins that work well, but bend when you need a lot of torque. A small screwdriver will turn plugs when I need more torque. Do whatever works best for you! :)

I enjoy that feeling when the plug breaks loose and turns too! I doubt that anyone here would think that is wierd! I think we all do or we wouldn't be here :) It's "shear" delight!

best locks are really tricky, i was havin the same problem with em that you were. what i did is i cleaned it out with WD-40 then used an i core tension wrench and raked with it. at first i just let the wrench sit there and gave it no tension at all, then i raked it once, then i started to put some tension on it and raked it and everytime i raked i put a bit more tension, i did that about 15 times and if i didnt have it by then i started over. i havnt been able to pick this pin by pin yet =( but i have been able to open it quite a few times with this method =)
