Bump Key problems.

Postby skyiscoolbeans » 23 Aug 2010 16:48

Having an extra $30 to spend, I bought 8 bump keys for various padlocks and deadbolts that I own. They're the kind of bump keys that you use the "pull back" method with.

After about three hours on various locks (Masterlock 930, American 5200, various Brinks locks, Schlage deadbolts, etc.), I have not been able to bump a single one, even using various tensions, various things to tap the key with, different timings, etc.). I'm guessing it's a problem due to the security pins in the locks but then I see posts on here from a few reputable members claiming to have bumped similar locks to mine open in minutes, if not seconds, with security pins in them. Any tips you guys can offer? I promised to dedicate another half hour or so to trying before I asked for help on it and I've exhausted that half hour.

You may want to try searching through some threads on here already, this topic has been beat worse than that dead horse back in 2006..

Also bump keys are not magic, they don't always work, and until you get a good "feel" for them, it takes a while to get it working.. Most people use too much tension in the keyway.

Hope this helps, happy picking.
