making your own picks

Hi guys....

im very new to lock picking and i order my set of picks this week should get them in a few days...

But i couldnt wait so i thought i would make my own now.. I never had a go at picking a lock never mind making some picks..but i have been reading all the info on the net and on this site.So i thought what the hell i will have a go...So i made a hook pick and a diamond pick and i made a tension Wrench which was not very good..

So there i was with my own made picks and wrench forgot to say i made the picks out of a hack saw blade...and i got a Â£5.00 padlock from the shop...

I was sitting there play with the picks the hook one i did was to big and the other seem to fit nice..and i was thinking of everyone here as said in there posts and other places i have took in One hour later..I picked the lock it was the first lock i have picked and with my own made picks too...
So thank you guys for making lock picking so everyone can understand how it works and the feedback that you leave.... :lol:

If anyone as not made there own picks then i would say make them because i will putting my own made picks with my new picks when they come and every time i open i will think that was the first pick i made and opened my first lock with,,,

Not only do you make tools, but you pick your first lock. Congratulations.

Good evening SpOOky,

First of all I'll say "VERY WELL DONE".

Secondly, I firmly believe that all aspiring locksmiths should start their training, whether it's self taught or professionally taught, by designing and making their own tools.
This will give them a far better understanding of what is happening as they attempt to manipulate the mechanism, be it cylinder or lever lock.
They will also discover what type of tools suit them best.
Most locks, including high security mortice locks, can be opened using tools that are made in less than twenty minutes, with tools and materials which can found in most peoples toolkits and garages.

So keep up the perseverence, and enjoy the challenges, and you'll also save yourself a lot of money. :wink:

Way to go! Don't forget to check out the MIT Lockpicking Manual that is available free in this website. Just do a search on MIT.

Thank you guys..why i didnt need to ask anything its because its all on these forums and on the web...
problem with some people is they cant be bothered to sit there and read anything before trying to pick a lock they try to pick the lock and when they cant they ask people why cant they do it??????

so i would say to everyone that wants to start lock picking is to read as much as you can about lock picking before you try to pick a lock its a hell alot easy if you unstand what is going on... :wink:

Did you download the MIT manual? Also, the website www.howstuffworks.com has animations about lockpicking that led me to this intriguing hobby. That's how I found this forum, through the how stuff works website.

yes i did down load it...but it was not as good as the info on this site..this site is one big manual... :twisted:
