New Schlage "Secure Key"

Postby Lauren » 19 May 2010 13:17

I see Schlage is trying to capture some market share against Kwikset's "Smart Key". I've yet to take one apart, yet the website makes it look like a strong contender as far as rekeyable and bump resistant locks are concerned. What I like about the Secure Key is that it requires a blue key which is cut to match your existing keys in order to rekey your lock. Unlike Smartkey, this gives a lot more security against an unauthorized user from rekeying your lock. Whoever has the blue key has the control. This might make it a more favorable product for apartment managers. It will be interesting to take one of these locks apart to expose it for pickablity and de-coding capability. I'm hoping it an all brass product, not die cast and plastic. The re-keyable locks have a '+' sign on the cylinder.

this lock is a pain... if you pick the wrong pin or something... i cant really guess right now what it is but anyways it binds up the lock and only the blue key resets the pins...so if you cant pick past it basically the lock rats you out for tryin....grrrrr.. back to the work bench to design new picks....always love macgyver time...
