memory lane

can we all just take a moment to remember the very first time the tension wrench gave, and our first lock swung open? that feeling?

yesterday i became interested, because of this lovely little community. today i set to work on my first lock, on my front door, a 5-pin. and man, when that thing finally gave... i felt myself become hooked, in that instant.

i used the metal clip on a pen cap (the pilot v7 makes a really viable macgyver tension wrench!) and a paperclip.

i went for a walk, and had that excited little revelation that we all have the first time we leave the house after becoming interested in this art: "holy dang, locks are EVERYWHERE!"

heehee. thanks, community.

I know that feel. Be careful though, soon you'll find yourself having to tackle harder and harder locks to get the same rush. Your life will spiral out of control, you'll abandon your loved ones and go bankrupt. Get help before it's too late

My first one was some Master - #3, I think. Bored at work, we found a lock, nothing better to do - so why not see if we could pick it. I made a half diamond out of some banding straps (pretty soft steel) based on what I thought a lock pick should look like. To my astonishment, it worked. That was about a year ago. Right after that, I started searching the internet for lock picking guides, then I found this forum.

The pick sucked, and only worked a few times before it started getting too bent up to hold its shape, but I was hooked. I'm making much better picks today. :)

Being newish I've only recently found out about snapper picks. It looks like most are being made from bicycle spokes. My question though is can they be made out of sweeper bristle?

Yes, they can. Search for "Raimundo's Snapper Picks" for some great ones. Personally, i can't seem to use one correctly. Love to see a video of a homemade one in use. You Tube seems to only have vids of commercial ones. :?
Just when you finally think you have learned it all, that is when you learn that you don't know anything yet.
