Very impressive. And cool to see another Norwegian on the forum (I live in Florida, but I'm from Norway. And I'm also named Stian.)
As has already been pointed out, I doubt that last pin would actually be present in the lock. I suppose you could always take it out, but even cooler might be to extend the rendered key a bit so that last pin would turn into an actual key position.
Ey mate =) It's been a while since I've logged in here! ^^
So, I was thinking I would like to make a couple new animations of locks and lockpicking.
But the question is: What animations are interesting now? Much have happened since I made this animation, so I want to know what you guys want to see next. Cant guaranteethat I will make them, but I'll give it a try =)
Got 1,2million views on this one crappy animation on youtube, and it's gone a little viral from time to time. And I'm glad that people find it informative =) Though, I've grown a bit better since last time, so I think I will handle a little better animation and render this time hehe...
I will take all the tips I get, and see what I can create
For now, I wanted to simply remake the old animation, but provide additional videos in the same look. So here is a test of the new look (the pins bounce, but thats fixed).
Will also render out what happens with wrong key, and raking/picking. Also bumping. That should cover the basics of normal cylinder locks. Might also explain the security pins, but I will have to see when I've got time.
I'm looking forward to learn other lock-types better, and to be able to visualize those too! =) But I've got a lot of work these times, so not much energy left on my spare time to create these. (Lyckily I work as a 3d artist, so I have access to a renderfarm. Locally, this short animation would have taken me almost 2 weeks of 100% CPU render power. I did it in one evening ^^)
Good job! I tried explaining how pin tumbler locks work to a friend of mine, and this animation achieved more than I could by 30 minutes of babbling... A picture tells a thousand words
If you do not manipulate the lock, then the lock will manipulate you
