I worked with a guy who had a friend who worked at the mail sorting facility at the post office. His friend would sometimes open cards during Christmas and take the money in them. He got away with it for awhile, but eventually got fired. I'll tell you one thing, though, for what it's worth. I have had friends who have mailed things to missionaries in areas where it was very common for things to be stolen from the mail. They started putting a religious picture in with the card and the thefts decreased significantly.
