SouthOrd tension tools

Postby HeyZeus » 28 Dec 2004 10:48

I own the 32 piece set of SouthOrd picks. I am very pleased thus far with them.

My only complaint is the tension tools that come with this set. In my opinion they are too wide. I find it hard to manuever my pick around on certain locks. It feels as if my pick gets jammed by the tension tool.

Also, it feels a bit flimsy at times.

Am I wrong and their tension tool is more than adequate? Am I trying to apply too much pressure to the tool? Am I using the tenion tool wrong? Or do other people find that on smaller locks the tension bar is too wide?

Looks like you are trying to create the profile for a tulip tension wrench, used on some doorknobs with a recessed face, etc.

As for me, it's HPC and LAB all the way in the turning tool department until I get to give Falle-Safe a spin.

try using the code button for your ascii images. As an example your new art should show up like this.

Code: Select all

Sorry for the bad quality picture. But, here are the tension tools that came with my kit.

The only difference (as far as I can tell) is that some are longer than the others. They are all the same width.

The standard SO tension tools are more than adequate, although there is nothing like making a few (dozen?) of your own custom tools.

With medium tension wrenches, I NEVER use them until I have filed a little bit of metal off the ends at about a 45 degree angle. It helps the tension wrench fit in the keyway better and also helps it fit snugly. An important part of being a good lock picker is the ability to alter your tools to fit your individual tastes.
