Brinks 4 Wheel Combintaion Locks

Postby slim_shady_213 » 4 Jun 2005 2:25

I own one of these Brinks 4 Wheel Combo locks that we have lost the combo to. I got it open finally but only by trying 7529 different combos which sucks. I can pick quite a few key locks, but this combo stumped me. I tried all the methods I could find like pulling on the shackle while spining the wheels and I tried to feel the flat spots with a feeler guage; both without luck. So if anyone has any experience with one I'd like to know.

Also - I discovered while playing with my Brinks sesame-style padlock that you can
derive the combination through manipulation. I'll describe the process as follows:

1.) Hold the lock on the palm of your left hand with the shackle on the left side so
that your thumb can "pull up" on it and maintain the pressure.

2.) While looking at the four digits rotate the wheel on the far right, you will notice
there will be an increase in resistance against turning this wheel followed be a sudden
elease. If done right the sudden release will stop on the correct number.

3.) Perform the same process on the second wheel from the right and so one until the last
of the four wheels is in place.

NOTE 1: As you set the correct number for each wheel, they will become increasingly
difficult to decode. I ussually set the 3 wheels on the far right so that I have only 10 combinations to try - which pretty much takes 10 seconds.

NOTE 2: There will also be a resistance to turning the wheel as the wheel aproaches "0".
You'll learn to tell the difference with practice.

Found this on your site. I'm trying it again. Still if there are any ways I haven't mentioned please reply. While looking around your website I got interested in lockpicking. I love puzzle games and such so it fits. Any how I just started today and I have picked four different keyed pad locks. A Master No 3 and a No 5, also a cheap knockoff called Guard and Design House deadbolt I had out in our shed. Pretty cool, I'm enjoying it.

Your first post said you couldnt find the combination by the sticking points and the second post states you can and describe how you did it !!

Which is it?

Actualy the top part of my second post was an article I found on your site that I copied with note pad. Sorry, I should have said that. Anyway, after having my wife reset the combo I was able to figure it out by manipulating the lock. (pulling down while spinning the wheels) First time I was pulling to hard. Turns out it was easy.

As far as lockpicking goes I can do all the ones I mentioned in my first post over and over by memory of the lock now. I am working on Master Lock 6230 right now.

Nice one,
Some locks need a bit of force and others only need a light pull on them,
Its always nice when the first one goes, the one which you dont have embedded in your head that is

As a tip, use the quote marks to put somone elses text on your post and also if you want to put a smily on you only have to click the pic to the left of your text box to insert one, unless you have unticked the box in your profile.

The pulling the shackle to feel for the release of the wheel works well for the 3 and 4-wheel master combo locks (i.e. master 643) too.

brute force

Postby raimundo » 20 Jun 2005 8:51

7529 tries must have tired your little fingers, next time you brute force a combination, try upwards and downwards from 0000 out to ten or twentyfive places, then try 1234 or 4321 or any sort of 1111 2222 etc, and then try the year, 2005 and go backwards to 50 or so places, try the street address, dates of marriage or birth, etc. There are a lot of numbers to try before starting in the middle and working up or down. (never start at 0001 and go to 9999, though 0001 should be tried in the potpourri of 'special numbers' as should 9999. Locks of this type will start to indicate whenever you are getting close to the combination, so it is also good to know what that feels like, (its just a different sort of click as you get within 10 numbers of it.
