Letterbox tool, but not via a letterbox

Postby prim » 20 Jul 2005 17:20

Hi all

I have had my letter box tool for sometime now and have used it for the very first time today but not via the letterbox.

Anyway back to the story.

I got a call from a worried gentleman saying he can’t get in to his garage due to electric failure as his only entrance is via a electric up and over door, hence remote control would not be able to operate the door when power failure and this particular one did not have any means of override. Also to make it more difficult the electric mains for the house and garage was in the locked garage.

So out came the letterbox tool, brushed off the dust and it was ready for work.
I managed to wedge one bottom corner about 2” to insert the tool and locate the mains and flick the switch, one press of the remote and the door was open.

One more job like that and the tool will of paid for its self.

It would be interesting to know has anybody else used it in funny ways? To do with locksmithing of course.

Nice result there prim. Could've been a bit trickier if the mains switch was at the other end of the garage though.

I was lucky, like you said it could of been down the other end, in fact if it was a few inches higher the tool would not of reached

Some things may be pick proof, but everything can be bypassed....

Still not used mine a year down the line,

Ive opened roller shuter garage doors in the past by just jacking the shutter up, they just stay shut normally due to the weight of them, used a forklift on a commercial one once!

A lasso (you car kit fishing rod could do) around the manual over ride chain can work wonders as well,

I do apprechiate though that it wont work on all shutters.

Flat solid doors are so easy its funny and i regulary sell drive protectors or deadlock systems to owners of them.
