Hey all, my mom has a skeleton padlock. The only key is attached to the shackel so you really cant use the key. How would I pick a lock like this? Pictures of it will be up after I get off work.
Thanks for the help

It is likely a small lever lock. My guess is that the key is fairly simple, yeah? You would do well to buy a cheap hacksaw blade and file it down to match the key on the shackle.

SHENNANIGANS there I said it smell like when a person doesn't want to take the key off the shackle, if it is there at all.
I don't like this....

I entirely disagree with you this time, man. Those big ol' lever keys? The heads of them have PLENTY of room to fit a shackle through. I think it's entirely possible that some kid (or unwary adult) just closed it up with the key on it. Or even that someone put it there as they were sorting a lot of random crap at an auction.
I buy it.

I buy it too. I would still go with the idea of making a copy from a Hacksaw blade or something similar to retrieve the key.
I'd still like to see a pic.

Cutting the key off is NOT an option. I tried my tension wrench, dont have a hacksaw blade yet. I need to get a bunch.

Sorry for the double post. I see there isnt a edit button. How about making a mold of the key if the hacksaw blade idea falls through?

The keyway, if you can call it that, is a bit limited in space. I strongly agree with the hacksaw idea; however, if that does not work a small screwdriver, bent paperclip, or other household tool should probably do it.

Is the key a barrel key? Meaning the end is hollow to slip over a post in the lock?

Even with the key attached to the lock the key can be coppied by a lockie and use it to open the lock.

Yea, but how many lockies have spare barrel skeleton keys laying around to make copies from?
A lock like that is nothing special anyways, just a little lever you gotta push. Only problem with that particular lock is the restricted keyway to get something in there effectively... I had a bunch of skeleton keys back in the day, a ring of maybe 50, and between them I could open almost all locks like that I ran across.
