2 things:
1. Be patient your still new
2. Don't pick you own house locks. Your still new to the sport and you don't want to break your lock. Buy some padlocks first(Well, thats what I recommend).

Im sure that when everyone here first got into lockpicking there were moments of tough struggle and they thought of quiting. But they pushed on through and just kept at it with tons of practice and reading and they eventually got it.
Lockpicking isnt an art in which you learn overnight, its something that takes a lot of practice and determination. What you have to realize is that these locks were designed with the purpose of preventing people from getting past them. So are you gonna let that lock laugh in your face? NO!!! You must use all your anger towards that lock! Shove those picks up that locks arse! PICK UNTIL YOUR HANDS BLEED!
Uh...so yeah as i was saying, dont give up hope, just read over the MIT Guide and give it another go. Once you accomplish learning how to pick locks, you'll be glad you did. Its fun knowing that you can do something which half the general public doesnt even think is possible

It actually might be a little harder than your front door. But give it a shot, you never know. I recommened a Master 149DCM.I find it a good first padlock. Or even a padlock from your local Rite Aid or Pharmacy.

You're applying way too much tension if you prefer the idea of a screwdriver. You bent the one you had didn't you? Lockwise, an American lock is a horrible beginners lock, I still can't pick my American. I would get a new lock not because I think you'll break your front door lock, but because it's easier to learn if you get a lock you can repin. Don't get a padlock because those aren't repinnable. go to the local hardware store and get the cheapest keyed door lock you can find. Kwikset or Titan are the way to go. Take the lock apart(carefully over a towel, on the floor of a clean room, you don't want to lose any pieces), and remove all the pinstacks but one, pick it like this, now do it with 2 pin stacks. Now try three. Eventually you'll get this lock fully pinned and I suspect you'll then be able to get your front door.

Exactly what I was going to say. That's how I learnt and it has served me well.
Some things may be pick proof, but everything can be bypassed....
