Lockwood sets the standard, their lower end range is still sufficiently secure and hardy. Our lockwood knob was changed a few days ago as the key was lost, we decided to get a new door too, so I decided to seriously test my door hardware security. It cost $150+ new years ago. I tried smashing it with a hammer and pulling/twisting with a wrench, using a crowbar, but it still stayed on. The door was badly damaged however. Anyone breaking in would have to use the windows. Or pick the lock.
What $20 locks are you talking about? Mine has only got Lockwood, ABUS and real crap, "Economy" Master padlocks at that price. and i think Mitre 10's overpriced for quite a lot of locks. $80 for an ABUS going at $40 on trademe.
