keymark picks

Postby raimundo » 26 Feb 2007 11:28

I have in the past described how to make a keymark pick from piano wire, in the shape of a 6 where the loop is for the second finger,
but recently, I found a mcguyver to make a very strong round wire pick out of a cell phone pull out antenna. pull out the antenna of a junk cell phone, you will notice that the wire is thickly coated with plastic for half its length, with the top button on the end. cut the wire all the way to the end of the the thinly coated half, strip off the plastic, then bend a hook into the wire, as you try to bend a hook using two pliers, you will discover the incredible temper of this metal. I used a little heat to the tip only to make and set the bend, then sand off the sharpness of the tip of the wire, I also make a bend in the part with the plastic left on it, the thick plastic and the button make a nice handle but with an angled bend, you have a reference to the angle of the pick tip inside the lock, which you would have less control over if you left it straight.
While the wire will remain flexy to a certain extent, you can put the hook tip under a pin at a tilt, then rotate the wire to stand the hook up.
Its quick and easy, its mcguyver, and its incredibly strong wire. Id post a photo when I figure out how that works.
