I've been looking at cylinders and was wondering if you could shim it from the front? Granted, there is that little lip that prevents a straight shot. but its small enough that you might be able to get it in with a little extra work, no?

has someone out there tried this that can argue or qualify this suggestion?

going to have a bit of a hack at it on the weekend, i'd imajine that if the shim was flexible and strong enough (and the lock was poorly made enough) then theoretically it could work... that's a lot of if's though..
Oh look! it's 2016!

..think I'm going to try the coke can option, it's free and you can have a cool drink while you work.

:D

sure, you'd have a drink, but it'd be pourin all over you!!! :)

Whitehat - theriotically it would work on a cheap lock. Well actually it works on pretty much any lock you can get at the back of 7 pin lock with spool pins in a positions - yep worked.

I have heard of this technique whitehat but i think a small drill hole is started just to remove the lip, but then if you are going to do that you may as well drill the hole right through. The lip is there on the better locks to prevent it but the cheap locks maybe not be as secure from this shim attack.

i have never been able to shim a lock from the front. the shims are too strong and the shape of them is all wrong, so dont bother trying you are just wasting your time the step at the front of the plug is there to stop this and to stop the plug falling out...
sorry :(
