I don't think SPP is significantly more "rewarding" than raking. I can pick my Master 141 by just inserting my rake, definitely less than one second, every time. Is this cheap or not rewarding? Not for me, I still enjoy it. I think SPP is a good way to get to know a lock, but it's not better in all respects. It's just a matter of personal preference.
In fact, with that Master 141, I apply a lot of torque too. But most other locks need a small, slowly increasing, amount of torque.
