You have very simple bench vise which you can clamp onto a desk or table. They are inexpensive, work well, and can be moved and stored whenever and wherever you like

You can get less expensive stuff, but I really love the panavise. I have a regular vise head for mine, as well as a board holder for when I'm working on PCBs.

Found a lock today with no key, got it home and BAM within seconds i managed to open it, was well happy

Yea those locks do come around. For example my Master Trigger lock and my Tri Circle 264 have such high tolerance for pins being set that I actually only lift one pin up and the base of my pick brushes against the other pins setting those. It's rare but it happens with cheap locks.

Anyhow, it's always fun to open a lock, no matter how easy or difficult

Yes I noticed with practise that I can lift one pin near the back and the padlock is open.
