I'm having issues with this new 1500iD

I think I figured out what I was doing wrong. When dialing I was pressing up and releasing, then pressing up again and releasing. Same motion for Right or Left. It seems like you have to keep your finger on the slider/dial for the complete motion of moving the dial UP and returning it back to center.

Basically do not flick the dial up and let if spring back to center on its own, keep your finger on it for the entire motion of each position you dial/slide to.

and no more need to slam the shackle down, a simple click down resets the lock.

Do you whink when you let it go like that is slipped into the opposite direction. Like if you pushed up and let go it sprung down so far it registered another input... or because you let go it did not register your first input...

I am just trying to figure out the situation. Thanks for the heads up though.

For those of you who are following the thread, the conversation has deverted to the 1500id (aka speed dial) from the 1590D topic. I have been fortunate to purchase three of these locks at Staples after visits to three different locations. These locks sold like crazy, and most of them were compromised and not sellable, because customers broke into the packaging to get the combination so that they could play with the lock.
One of the locks, I had to return because someone had tried to take the lock apart and one of the three screws on the back was missing. The second lock had the combination missing from the packaging, but I was able to open the lock by trying multiple 4 sequence combinations without consequtive same digit pairs. Master sets the combinations of these locks to only 4 arrows or 4 digits in my interpretation. It was a gamble on my part, but the lock opened after 40 tries or so. If you do the sequences on paper, there's a 108 possibilities for this scenero. And because it's Speed Dial, it doesn't take very long. Thanks Master!
Anyway, the other problem I seen with my locks is that the spring action in the lock has gotten tired in the knob or it simply sticks. I will say, the instructions do say to allow each swipe to return to center for those who may be having problems. It's important to push the hasp inward to reset the lock between trials. The movement is hardly noticable.
Overall, I still think the lock is an engineering genius. But, it's made cheaply and marketed toward school kids, which makes me wonder why a place like Staples is the only major retailer in the US carrying it, according to Master Lock's web site. I have to say, I have to pitty the kid that uses this lock on his locker at school. It attracks too much attention, and everyone will want to play with it, and sooner or later it will get vandalized.

change your search radius.. you'll see Target stores show up in your results. That's where I got mine, $7.99 in red.

Sorry to hijack the thread, I didn't realize the 1590D was an Alphanumerical standard style dial lock, thought it was just another body style to this type of up down left right mechanism. Thanks for all the tips and good info though.

On the 1500iD letting the knob spring back will sometimes dial "half" of the opposite movement. Usually this is only important on the last move, but be careful when you do this while reprogramming.

I purchased another Speed Dial this evening, and just for fun, I tried opening the lock with my 108 trial numbers, before opening the packaging with the combination inside. Well, to my dismay, none of the numbers worked. This left 4,336 left to try. On the way back from the store where I purchased the lock, I was one minute away from home after driving for 20 minutes doing my one handed experiment. Just then, I randomly decided to try right-right-down-up, and wouldn't you know it, the lock opened! The lock Gods where guiding me... that's it. LOL. I think I will play the lottery.

In my last post, I was making fun of myself on how I accidently opened a 1500iD with one last random try before I got home with my lock. This is a little game I like to do when I purchase a lock, and that's in trying to open it without having the keys or in this case, having the combination at hand. The funning thing was, I actually visualized myself opening the lock milliseconds before it really happened. But somehow, I knew it would open in this very try.

Yesterday, I purchased another 1500iD. I don't know why I bought it, because I certainly didn't need it. I think I was just bored sitting in my car during my lunch break. Anyhow, I went through my 108 number trials, which if you recall, excludes arrows in the combination that are sequentially the same.

Now, I'm not a religous man. But, just after having no success with those 108 directional combinations, I said "God.... guide my hand to opening this lock on this very next try". I then clicked up two times, down one click and up one last click. I then pulled on the hasp, and it opened! I don't know what you would call that; mind over matter or luck? All I know is, it freeked my out.
I say one last thing regarding this matter, a lot of you reading this have actually seen your self opening a lock just before it happens. Your mental state and attitude effects everything.

The other day just playing around I opened a kryptonite bike lock that nobody knew the combo for in under a minute, I knew in my mind it would open, and it did! A doctor called me a few months back, he had one of those really expensive bikes and he had a lock that I can't remember the name of, it was really expensive combo lock, I couldn't open it in the "usual" way, I told him I would try really hard to get it, an hour later I had it, to this day I don't know how I managed it, pure luck, but I wanted to open it bad and I visulized it in my head! Pop, no big deal I guess!

I say one last thing regarding this matter, a lot of you reading this have actually seen your self opening a lock just before it happens.

I did see myself opening a lock a number of times in competitions, alas, most of the times it only happened in my mind ;(

I'm trying to put my hands in the master lock speed dial and the 1590 D, but in my country it's rare.

The engineering of the speed dial looks to be great...

So thank you guys because i bought this lock from home depot for my school locker and i reset the code to what i wanted. it wouldnt open so i read how to pick it. picked it two times on different letters/numbers than what i programed it. i could never get it to open with my code. so i reset it back to the factory code and now i have no problems opening the lock. its going right back to home depot. an 18 year old who has never picked a lock before picked this lock twice in 10 minutes thats said!!!!

Just bought the 1590D a couple weeks ago and it was working great until a few days ago, now I can't manage to get this dang thing opened no matter how many times I try my combination! Hello!

I'm hoping people who can help me see this.. I have the 1590D lock and snapped it shut after about 3months of it being in storage. I was confident I knew the number but can't open it now.

It's not attached to anything but I would like to use it for my locker.

I have no experience in lock-picking, so I am hoping someone will be able to give me some easy to follow steps to unlock it.

I don't want it to go to waste or 'just buy a new one' as most people are telling me.

I can post a pic of the lock on my finger and not attached to anything if there are some trust issues, and if someone would tell me how.

If there were "some easy to follow steps to unlock it", would you use it to secure your goods?

The only suggestion I can give you is to try some combinations similar to your. Maybe the numbers are a little off, so let's say your combo was 10 20 30, try 9 20 30, 11 20 30, 10 19 30, 10 21 30, 10 20 29, 10 20 31.
