Assuming its a closet, that opens outwards with an unprotected latch, you can use anything from the springs in click pens to a butter knife to retract the latch. If the door opens inwards (reverse bevel), a butter knife can be worked gently between the door stop and the jamb to retract the latch from the strike. Just be careful not to scar the woodwork.

you could just try picking the door, get an allen wrench just bigger than the lock and file it down to size. Then take a safety pen head (the part thats not sharp, and with the metal guard off) file it down to be smooth and rake it out. use the tension wrench (allen wrench) go clockwise with the tension wrench and take the safety pin and stick it all the way to the back of the lock and simply pull back at different speeds and angles. it may take awhile but if you need the TP that could be some motivation

Wait, you still have the key right??? Because if you really wanted to keep that lock, why not just grap some pliers and pull the paperclip out? chances are you'll just jiggle the pins a little. Don't feel embarsed about the paperclip. The first lock I tried to "pick" at age 9 was my Grand Caravan car door lock. The paperclips got stuck, so my dad just kept pulling. It worked, and we lived happily ever after.
