BTW once you get hang of schalges they are alot of fun and you will wonder why they ever gave you so much trouble.

Lock picking, for me, has periods of skill stagnation followed by sudden leaps in skill. There was a time when I thought I would never be able to pick American brand locks, now they are fun and mosty fairly easy. Schalges are somewhat like that too.

Picking Schlage Deadbolts
Schlage deadbolts have spool pins at least 4 out of 5 for the common type that is found at homedepot etc.
To learn how to do this i had to read a couple books and watch many videos to figure out how to do this so don't get discouraged, it felt great when that plug spun for the first time.
Tools Needed: slimline hook pick, plug spinner and tension wrench.
Slimline- http://www.southord.com/Lock-Pick-Tools ... LS-09.html
Step 1. Achieving the false set-
start picking with light tension as you would any other normal lock, with schlage deadbolts you have to put tension in the counterclockwise direction so when you have picked the lock you will need the plug spinner to spin it clockwise and unlock the bolt.
So you are picking the lock and all of a sudden it moves a little bit in the counter clockwise direction this is called a false set. It means the spool pins are lifted above the shear line this is good this means you are doing it right.
Step 2.
Once you have your first set gently find the pins that when you apply pressure to the turn the lock in the clockwise direction. this means the spool pin is raised above the shear line and that pin has been set. now once you do this some of the other pins will probably have fallen back to after ever time you raise a spool pin above the shear line you have to achieve another false set.
Step 3. be patient and repeat, remember you do not need any more tension than you would on any other lock you are picking though u think you might. tension is the real enemy to much tension and the lock will bind up and you will get very frustrated.

When i first started being able to pick these deadbolts it would take 15 to 20 minutes now i have it down to 130 to 2 minutes so like with everything experience helps.

Tips- i like to go from the front pin to the back and once ive picked the last pin or backmost pin i return to the front pin and repeat this ensures that you are not knocking other pins down or unsetting other pins if you were to go all they way to the back pin the reverse the order. Ive found this technique to be the most effective and ive picked many different examples at least 1000 times no exageration

Also here is a great youtube link that will help you tremendously

As already mentioned though I would take out some of the pins to and try working it on that way. But yes do not forget to take out the top pins because then it will locked. I do know though they also have stronger than normal springs. I would actually gut the lock and then put it back together to see what your dealing with. that should give you an easier way to pick it as well.
