I have a REALLY simple solution that I'm going to post here it a bit, just trying to get everything compressed and sorted. :-P

Alright, it took me longer to compress and upload everything than it did to add the "protection"...

It's just a standard zip tie, looped through the hole and around the shoulder. Quick, cheap, and darn simple. Enjoy! :)

Looks... asymetrical. Like you'll end up pitching the key downward every time you hit -- the upper shoulder will "give," the lower shoulder will not.

I should ask: have you tried it? Does it work? :-D

Also, if you're going to use the zip-tie method, it look better probably work better (Yes, vector40, you're partially right. ;-) ) if you cut a slot down into the bow of the key, so that the zip tie is actually sitting flat, instead of at an angle. This will also allow you to tighten the zip tie more evenly and will have more even wear.

Alright people, I'm feelin' a bit foolish at the moment. I was under the impression that vector40 was referring to the ZIP TIE being asymmetrical, when he was actually referring to the key shoulders themselves.

Yes, the key does work because the bottom "shoulder" never actually contacts anything. It goes right along through the keyway. I can see why such a key might present a problem in other systems, though. Sorry, vector40!

Hot Dam*!

This is exactly the kind of thing I love. Simple! Cheap! It's one of those "why didn't I think of that" things. I love it.

Great idea Omi! Good work!

I would also like to note, just to people are aware, that the zip ties DO shear (Get it? SHEAR!) off after prolonged use or abuse, but it's so much simpler to replace a petty zip tie than to re-cut a new bumpkey or buy a new lock!
