yeah i know what u mean. but dont listen to any of these other guys, because their totaly wrong. All u have to do is get something small enough to fit the hole, then just put it in straight, and try to find sort of a button that u can poke, and while you are poking it, just twist the knob and ur done

Tave, it's not always that easy. Sometimes you can just poke it and it will open, other times you have to twist it with something like a screw driver, and there are other ways I'm sure. Just because the locks your used to are that cheap and open that easy doesn't mean everyone elses is.

...it doesn't have anything to do with what country your in, just what brand of lock.

if you are talking about the simple locks that come on bathrooms and some bedrooms in residential homes in the US you don't even need a tool to unlock it, although the inside of a pen or coat hanger is quickest. i discovered this meathod while pestering my girlfriend while she was in the shower. i started just rattling the doorknob back and forth really fast, after about 45 seconds the lock just popped and the door opened much to my suprise. it's quite simple and i'm able to do it now in about 5-10 seconds, the trick is to turn the knob fast enough.

Small things amuse small minds?
Everybody knows how to open these things, so everyone can contribute.
At least, the majority of people have opened one of these things at some point or other. Christmas has a tendency of making lock pickers out of most young children.
Come to think of it, it has the tendency of making parents think like spies. That's another topic though.

Picking falls under what's called NDE or non destructive entry. It also falls under bypass techniques.
Any device which can be manipulated and caused to open, activate or otherwise perform it's intended function with a tool or device not originally intended for that purpose can be said to have been picked.
So, no matter what that tool looks like, you can "pick" a bathroom privacy lock.
THATS WHY ITS HERE.
It's a bit foolish, but it fits the bill nevertheless.

Ooh, my vote goes towards the BATTERING RAM!!!
...okay, to be serious here, the privacy locks are easy to "pick" but there are many types of them. I had used to live in a place where poking something into the knob doesn't actually unlock the lock, it just release it for a moment. For example, when you poke a paper clip in - you have to turn the handle at the same time. The second you take the paperclip out, it locks again. Another one seemed to unlock when you press AND turn (and didn't relock after). This used to be fun with friends or siblings...
