On Friday the centre oppisite me call me out to change the padlock on one of their seecurity gates. Actually it was the gate for their rubbish storage room. eeeew  not a nice place to work..

This was a very cheap padlock, +- $3 or even less. They wanted to use my boltcutters. Different topic but don't you just hate when people ask to use your tools. ESpecially if you know them and a refusal will offend.

But I am transgressing. I decided to instead of distroying the padlock, to rather pick it. Oh I forgot to mention the reason they wanted to replace the lock was the key had broken in it. So I reckon that this will be a good practice lesson and within a few minutes had removed the broken key and had picked the lock open.

I won't get paid for the job but I scored another practice lock and got some practicing done.

I read countless times that practice makes perfect. This is true, so keep at it... :D

I pick as long as I'm not doing anything really important. I carry a padlock around constantly and although I don't have a decent pick set, I'm working on it now though I can still get by with Wind Shield Wiper metal for tension wrenches and home made(shit with my skills) hack saw blades. 3-5 hours easy. I don't have enough locks to really practice as much as I should. Saving enough money right now so I can buy the LSS+ LockSmith Version. I can sit by the tv and pick for 2-3 hours easy most of the time not looking at the lock. Just feeling for it. With hooks anyways I don't fight it at all. I take an approach with patience and eventually your skills will gradually get better over time. I haven't been picking for more then 2 weeks and I can pick most pad locks in less than 6 seconds.

I usually try to practice every two or three days, but lately that's been once a week if I'm lucky (due to school work). When I first started picking, it was every five or six hours for about an hour. Sitting watching a movie? Practice your picking. Whenever your hands are free and you want a little time relaxing, have a pick. Working on this basis it's quite easy to get four to five hours of practice in without taking a chunk of time that should be used for other things. Hope it helps :?

I'm fairly to so I just do it to kill some time when I've got nothing going on, something between 5 mins to several hours daily.

See I need new tools. I'm tying to save $40 for the Slim Line $39.99 C510 set. I can pick in less than 12 seconds but I can snap pick it with a forward/back motion with a regular hook pick and get it in less than 6 seconds. With such shitty tools. My tension wrench is from a wind shield wiper which is very small in width. Hook is made from a hack saw blade I found and is extremely thin. I need new picks lol

I have a new boring in-the-office-with-four-other-analysts project, at the State of Ohio. It's only till December, then it is back to my usual weirdness probably.

I have a nice monitor with a tray in the stand. In that tray, I keep lock cores. Throughout the day, when I think, I pick. I would guess that I get 4 hours practice a day. Seriously.

Funny thing is the people that come into the war room and see them. "Why do you have those? What are they, locks?" "Yep." "Where are the keys." "They don't have keys, I use them to practice picking." "YOU DO WHAT?"

Pretty funny. There are two kinds of people - those who think it is cool and ask me to pick the office door (a schlage primus, I think not) and those who look at me out of the corner of their eyes and eye the telephone.
