yeah, that is one weird movie! the guys have their pockets emptied anyway, so you wouldn't have them when you woke up.
if you get caught carrying picks in the UK you get fined or arrested and all sorts, its usually safer not to carry them. besides, they're my only set, i'd be lost without them!
like i said, im not good enough to pick my way out of things anyway.

A saw like situation with picks would be a great motivator to teach you how to pick locks. The fear of death can make people do extraordinary things

in relation to SAW:
All the more reason to have picks made out of a biologically safe(perhaps some kind of plastic) and inserted somewhere in your body under the skin....
There are many piercers who put entire earings or huge rods under the skin, a small pick wouldn't be anything to these guys
Another intresting thing, is that there is a method, for a regular chain, to put leverage of the entire chain onto a single link, breaking it.
I wonder if a shim would have worked on the padlocks in SAW?
Also... why not pad the ankle cuff with photo's or clothing so you wouldn't get shocked?
Also, 6 hours and no one noticed him breathing???

lol, i hit reply and someone posted before i did!
thats some good points actually, id forgotten things like that. i can understand how the chain leverage thing would work.
at the end of the film i would have gone for the gun and put a bullet in that guys face, why did he just sit there???
or was it out of ammo?

The shackle would have been a better cut than the chain as well. Shims probably wouldn't have worked, but a broken hacksaw may have been able to be converted to a tension wrench, and rake.
Also the gun might have been able to shoot through the lock.

either in cyberpunk fiction or some heinlein book I read about a woman who had a pouch created inside her naval, for carrying things. probably works like those sexchange operations where they turn the guys johnson inside out and make it into (cant say that word, canadians might see it and be corrupted) anyway it would seem better than as homersimpson puts it, kiestering it.

I still think the guy is an idiot for sawing his foot off... Why didn't he just use his jacket to lasso the phone?!
Bahhh

its been ages since i saw that film, i remember sitting in the cinema thinking that now!!
theres so many things you would logically do, but they just didnt, i suppose its because its "not in the script"

Actually, if you arch your back a little so your chest isn't pressed against the ground, it's relatively easy to make it appear as if you're not breathing. As long as you're quiet, and your back doesn't get tired, you could probably get away with it.

wasn't the guy lying on his back?
even if he was doing this, i'll bet it would be impossible not to move for like 6 hours.

A sedative might have done the trick. If you have ever heard of the voodoo zombie powder, that is just a poison that slows the heart, and breath enough that even doctors think they are dead, when they aren't. So some belladonna might have slowed, and made the breathing shallow enough to make him pass for dead to the observers.
