Well, it wouldn't be too hard. Just put the lock in a vice (dial facing up), with a piece of paper or ruler, or something behind it to measure the distance. Better yet, just tape a strip of paper to the back of the lock, making it long enough to extend up past the bar a small amount, and notch down where the bar comes to, and see if there is any difference. Try it with different parts of the combo, such as just spinning the dial and checking, doing the 2x clockwise turn, then to the first number, try and notice a difference. Or, put in the first 2 numbers, and try to see a difference on the 2nd one (since pulling on the bar mid-combo resets it). If there's a difference, it will most likely give you the last number (since the dial techincally is only attached to the last disk. But, if you get the last number, it makes a lot easier to get the 2 others (assuming the 1st#>2nd#, and 3rd#>2nd#, and 1st#<3rd# (this one is for most locks, I think) "rules" are accurate. Worth a shot, I'd say.

Hey sane, were not really done yet, but I feel Im close. I knoticed the way I do it with the charts is similar to how you crack a safe according to howstuffworks.com, so maybe I am right. Maybe the way Im doing it is to find the first 2 numbers, and orange yours is to find the 3rd number. What we really need is a opened dudley lock, and Im gonna ask my janator if he has one on Monday.

Sane's post count is 0 and Orange_Crusader made a triple post. I assume they are effects of the problems the site has been having.

Yep, at least I think so. It refused to let me post (I could type it all up just fine, but it wouldn't submit, I'd get the Server Not Found page). Too bad I can't delete those extra posts (mods, anyone?). I guess it did sumbit (and post it), but I still got shafted with the Server Not Found thing.
If this double or triple posts (just gave me a "no post mode specified" thing, but at least with the regular LP101 background), I'm not surprised.

It's not me, I swear! For the last few days, it's been telling me that what I posted hasn't been posted (no post mode specified thing), when, in reality, it has. Is it the site, or is it my computer?

I say it's the site. I've been getting the 'server not found' thing too. Also the search isn't working for some reason. I can't find things with the search that I had been able to find previously.

...And it's also telling me that there was an error with the post even though there wasn't.

Here are some guidelines that should prevent double-posting:
1. Only click "submit" once.
2. If it gives you an error such as "server not found", ignore it. The post has probably been sent and you should check the thread before attempting to post again.
By following these guidelines it should help keep this site neater and more professional. Thank you.

I have a dudley lock right beside me, I already know the combo. Do you think it would help to use it as a test subject?

I now have over 11 locks, their combinations, and their notches. I can post all the combinations and notches and see if we can work something out.

What colours are the dials? I think the metal bit (I think it's supposed to make it more cut-proof) are a simple add-on to another common type of lock, not a different lock altogether. Too expensive to do that. Everyone, when you post the sticking points, please post the dial/number colour as well. In the meantime, I'll go down to the janitor at my school and see if I can pick up a few cheap/free dudley's to dremel open, scan it, and compar,e test theories, etc.

If you want the combos, I need the dial colour. Also to Sane who said he had dudley locks, can you pry open a black one, and scan a picture of the disks? Put them in order, so we know please.
