Old Box Lock Picking

Postby guitarzpt » 16 Mar 2006 18:20

I've tried the guides I found here but couldnt find anyone that applys.
The lock hole looks like a mushroom but it has a pin inside the upper part. So the key instead of being solid it must have a hole to go into the lock. I've been trying to find moving parts with a pick and couldnt find any.

Can anyone point me to some links, guides or help me with this kind of lock ?

Best regards

Hmm... Well it could be several things, but I'll include photos of what it's likely to be...

It will either be a very simple warded lock, as shown on the left - a stiff piece of wire bet to an 'L' shape should open it with some force.

It may also be a lever lock - these range from 2-5 levers commonly, although bigger ones exist. To pick this follow the lever guide I wrote - you will need thinner wire to get around the central post, but you should manage.

It's hard to suggest anything solid - unless you could roughly show what the key looked like.

Hope this helps... somewhat at any rate. :)

The lock looks like the one on the left on your pick. But its really small. Its from a box. The hole must be like 7 or 8 milimeters.
Where's this guide you're talking to ? Can you point me to it ? I'm kind of a noob in this forusing thing :P

Thanks for the help

Like illusion said, a bent piece of wire will usually do the trick. Sometimes a hook pick works just as well. If you can remove the lock, your local lockie should have the most common barrel keys on hand. Hopefully, the lock hasn't frozen up from lack of use (they are prone to do that). Some lubricant might help picking it. Hope this helps. Good Luck
