When using a Snake Rake, am I Picking or Scrubbing/Raking if I only utilize a pressing motion on individual pins ?

BTW, it is a VERY effective technique.

Picking!

Postby pradselost » 23 May 2006 22:31

You're definitely single pin picking. Picking or Raking isn't defined by the tool you use, just the function you use it for.

Single-pin Picking: The movement of individual pins up to the shear line by use of a tool.

Raking: The quick scrubbing of a pick over the pins, with the intention of causing some or all of them to set.

...I know a lot of people are fond of using the half diamond to rake a little bit, as it glides over the pins well...this works particularly well in very cheap tiny padlocks.
