when I was in math class I made a tension wrench, when I got a ruler from my teacher. I got a wooden ruler on the side there would be a metal piece, and I would use that metal piece and cut it into 3 pieces and use it for a tension wrench. But I dont know if it works its just an idea.

That sounds like a very good idea
I seem to remember the metal as being a little soft, but I could have just had a crappy ruler.......
Definitely worth a try!

I was able to open my lock with it, but the hard part was to pop open the lock. It kinda missed up the wrench in the front.

It's been quite awhile since I was in school, but I use to pull those strips out myself, and they were soft and plyable.
Maybe the manufacture have changed the metal, but not likely as those strips can cut.

It was easy to cut it, I just used scissors to cut the metals.

It may be possible to heat treat the metal to make it harder. It's not an altogether bad idea, but as far as good materials go, this stuff is probably not top of the list.
None the less, certainly an example of creative thinking, so you can be commended on that point.

try bending the metal to the proper shape, then heating it with a propane torch until it's orange. then dunk it in ice water. this might harden it enough to be serviceable. if i remember right, these strips are made of copper, which is quite a soft metal. however, back in the day, when i was a poor janitor, i used to pick locks on the tampon vending machines with copper staples from the cardboard toilet paper boxes. i'd use the dimes to buy lunch. point being, in an emergency situation, these tension devices may prove useful, if only as a one-time-use tool.

BTW- these days, I'm a well-paid medical professional, and I can afford my own lunch, not to mention I have much more appropriate ethical values. I don't condone picking someone else's property for personal gain, for the record.

I am in the process of creating a vending maching type tubular lock tension wrench out of hacksaw blade... if i am successful in my creation... Ill post a pic and instructions
Happy picking!

Well, I'm sure that this has been said a hundred times before. DONT PICK LOCKS THAT ARENT YOURS!!! .....cough..... sorry about that, But this site does not condone any illegal activity. Please refrain form posting about activities that are illegal in nature. Though writing about these topics may make it easier to determine who will and who won't be allowed into the advanced forums......

you sir have been here 2 months? are you a moderator? if not i would appreciate a mod to correct me not you... I was not encouraging in anyway doing anything illegal... I was merely pointing out that sheer boredom makes ya do stupid stuff... I don't take anything from the premises when i pick a toilet paper roll... but lets say there is none left and i can feel it up there but cant reach it and cant make it fall down... then it is indeed a state of emergency and that lock must be picked...
Disclaimer: pick at ya own risk... in some places just owning a set can get ya in trouble...
Happy picking!

You could damage the lock and its not yours. Dont pick anything you don't own or have consent to pick.
You wouldn't be happy if the local kid's picked your front door because they were bored. But not to worry they didn't plan to steal anything so its ok right??...

After writing that post, I failed to mention that it's not me who has the power to do anything, but the mods, and I have been here long enough to know that picking locks that arent yours is not tolerated in these forums. I was only posting this to let you know of the rules of these forums. A mod would have written the same thing. Sorry that I got there first. You only have 23 posts, And stated that you already pick locks that arent yours. Then in the next line, you stated how your trying to create a pick to pick vending machines. If I connect the two together, it would seem as though you may be dwelling in illegal activites. Unless of coarse you own a Vending machine yourself. Is that the case? I dont know a lot of people who just happen to have a machine in their home. If you state that you have done illegal activites in the past, then how are we not to know that you will not continue to do them in the future. And all it takes for picking to be illegal is for you to place your picks inside a lock that is not yours. You dont even have to pick it. Once the picks enter the lock, it now becomes B&E. Indeed picking a lock on a toilet paper machine may seem like nothing, but you still need to be careful with your words. less someone may think that you dwell in illegal activites.

How's this then. Read the rules of the forum..... DO NOT PICK LOCKS YOU DO NOT OWN!! It is unethical and casts a shadow over a sport we are all trying to get accepted into the mainstream. Not only that, you do run the risk of damaging a lock that you do not own which could endanger someone later down the road.
For the best book out there on high security locks and their operation, take a look at amazon.com for High-Security Mechanical Locks An Encyclopedic Reference. Written by our very own site member Greyman! A true 5 Star read!!
