Need help Master#315 core

Postby d_goldsmith » 15 Nov 2006 6:31

 I cut open my 315 to see if it had security pins. The bible isn't open at the top, but there are holes at the bottom.

I turned the plug and dropped out the key pins. I had a feeling if I turned it back to get the driver pins out the springs might stick in the keyway, but lucky me, they didn't. I dropped the drivers out the bottom (no security pins). Problem is when I tried to put them back in, the drivers set above the springs, but I can't turn the plug because they are blocking the shearline. I tried using a hook (with tension) to push each pin below the shearline, but that wasn't working, so I thought I might be able to bump them down. It wasn't working by hand, so I make shifted a vice

I tried bumping the drivers down below the shearline (it was upside down). Pop, it turned, I got excited that I was able to use bumping for that and started taking pictures to show you guys what I had accomplished, but then when I turned the plug to put the key pins in, the driver pins dropped out? I had bumped the springs only it turns out :x Any advise?

Nevermind.

I tried bumping it so much that I dented the sleeve around the plug and the plug wouldn't turn anymore, so I cut the bottom of that sleeve and peeled it open. Put all the pins back in, and bent it back closed, but the sleeve broke (thin copper), so I had to splint it

Now I just have to resplint it anytime I want to repin it.

hmmmmm .. I think that one is ready for the "brass bucket"" :(

If you look at the tail of the plug, you will find a "flat spot" ,turn the cylinder to match the flat spot on the core and remove the core. A follower helps keep the top pins and springs in place.
Check a few of the FAQs to find out how to remove/ replace the top pins/ springs
