Image

I would like a few peoples' opinions...... Could some of you please print this jpg out.

I am wondering if this prints out as a decent template for picks, or does it need to be resized a bit?

For the newbies .... From top to bottom

Half diamond used for raking

lifter used to lift each individual pin

snake used for raking

Here's the question that is on many of our minds. Where did you happen to purchase the HPC dental set?

Hmm, as for a template for picks I have no idea. His site is not all that interesting. He talks about the different types of locks and how secure they are. He talks very little about actually picking locks. It is not really worth translating. There are a few interesting things he talks about such as magnetic locks, but most of the stuff on his site is really general information that is widely avalible in english. He however does have some excellent links. Unfortunately these are in German as well. I might at some point translate this document into English: http://stud-www.uni-marburg.de/~Klossa/ ... .html#T114. [If someone who knows about lock terminology in German would please clarify exactly what he is trying to say when he is talking about the new type of magnetic locks, it would be greatly appreciated.]

On second look at that picture, it is pretty low resolution and the proportions seem a little off. You probably would not want to use this as a template for making picks.

Regards.

dimensions

Postby PYRO1234321 » 11 Feb 2004 7:46

Use the picture as a guide and rough them out by hand or use these dimensions to draw a template on steel. There are no "exact" dimensions that are perfect for all locks, but these numbers should make a good all around set. if your find one a little to big or small, then make another with the desired size to add to your set. these rough dimensions will work well with carbon steel (not bi-fold steel blades) hack saw blades, Stainless steak knives or feeler guage stock, s.c. bristols, wiper inserts ect....:

Hook: 1.5-2.25mm(1/16") thick shaft (straight shaft is better than tapered IMO), length should a minimun of 3cm (1 1/4") from tip of hook to beginning of handle, hook should rise (height) 3-4 mm (2/16") from the bottom of the shaft. exact curve/angle/height of hook is a matter of personal pref and lock type/keying. i recommend a few differend hooks.

Diamond: same shaft as above. diamond part should rise 1-2mm above top of shaft

S-Snake: same shaft as above. first hump (biggest) 4mm (5/32") from base high, at least 3mm (2/16") wide grove hollowed out under first hump. The entire length of the snake rake is 5mm (4/16"). but rakes are the most various of designs, i usually use the 90 degree corner of a grinding wheel to notch rakes, no measuring required, the more rakes, the better the chance of using one that "groves" (pun) with the lock.

Goto: http://www.hpcworld.com/ --> pick sets, some of their sets have excellent graphics to use as templates, but some do not, so click through them all to get a better idea. as the saying goes "imataion is the best form of flattery" (or something like that).

tj1835, as far as materials go, frm all the reading i have been doing everyone seems to choose either hacksaw blades (cheap ones) as more expensive ones are harder to work with, the strip out of a winshield wiper blade, or the bristles(sp?) from a street sweeper which you can often find in lage paking lots around the curbs.

here is a video i have watched a couple times now since i plan on making my own.

thanks pyro and everyone else who made this film for us to watch.
