What am I doing wrong?

Im looking for some advise on (spp) single pin picking with spool pins. I am able to open most locks with regular pins with no problems, but when I run in to a lock with spool pins I can not get them to set by using (spp). :x

How ever, I can open most by using very little tension and doing the hoki poki and shake it all about method. :D Yes, I did some searches and I know you have to push the spool pins up a little bit more after the first click, but still unless I give it a little rake'in I cant get it to open. :?

I would like to Know if you guys are setting one pin at a time and when you get to the last one it just pops open? Do you go real slow and listen for the clicks, or is it mostly by feel?

I have ordered a set of peterson picks with the plastic handles that are on the way. I was told that you get a good reading from these picks, so that may help solve my problem to but I still thing there is more to (spp) if any one can help me. Thanks

I deal with security pins by picking the lock as I always would, then when I have spool pins holding the plug I ease off the tension a bit and pick them. I know this is probably not going to be alot of help to you. But their is really no way to explain exactly what to do. Every lock is different and everyone picks different. No ammount of reading will make up for hands on practice.

You have to be able to
1.) Identify when there is a binding spool pin and
2.) Know how to set a binding spool pin.

Here's how:
1.) You know a spool pin is binding when the plug rotates a few degrees while SPPing. I personally find the binding spool ping by pressing on the pins in order with my hook until I feel the pin that makes the plug want to rotate back to the "locked" position. This is the binding spool pin.

2.) You set the spool pin by letting the tension on your wrench go a bit lighter and then press the spool pin a bit harder. If done corectly you will primarily feel it set, it may or may not be audible.

Practice!

You may also hear some other pin stacks that you've already set fall back down after you've defeated the security pin. This happens because you have to let off the tension a bit for the security pin like freak and exodus said. Don't let that throw you off track if it happens, just go back to that fallen pin stack and try to set it again. Sometimes you have to go back and forth like that.
If a lock is a puzzle, then its key is the complete picture
