i am a beginner (i started last week) i have opened a couple of easy master padlocks and some droor locks. I have this papaiz padlock and i was wondering if there were any techniques on how to open this. i went to the website papaiz website and it said that there were mushroom pins, if that helps clarify anything. i only have picks that i made out of a metal rake so telling me waht kind of pick to use would not help much.
thanx in advance

When picking these locks, the pins give the impres- sion that they have broken, when in fact they could be a long way from breaking. You can tell whether or not you are picking a pin tumbler lock that has these pins by the fact that the pins seem to align so easily with a louder than normal click. The cylinder seems eager to open but to no avail. Use very little tension on your torque wrench to bypass the fake break in the pin
To my imagination the pins would be machind like this

Hop the diagram clears up why it is hard to pick and how you are being tricked
Good luck

Now THAT's what I call a mushroom pin.
(Just ignore the dots.)
If it ain't broke.....pull it down and see how it works anyway!

You have been "trapped" by the mushroom pins. Try pushing up on each individual pin. You will find that one or more pins wants to return the plug to center when pushed on. These are spool pins that are false set. Reduce tension so that you can set these pins, and then continue. Unfortunately, many times you will unset another pin or two in the process.

I would also add that Papaiz padlocks are notorious for having spool pins in ALL positions.
Good luck.

sorry but I still dont get how the mushroom pins stop you. I remember having all the pins up a lock and still not being able to turn it, so I lowered the tension and saw a few pins drop and slowly pushed them back into the shaft. -- still nothing. I havent been able to get the lock. But I dont udnerstand how a spool or mushroom stops you, if its going to be in the shaft, what other way would you put it there to make it work sorry for such a repeated question.

Funky: in the "Master Keys" section of the MIT guide, their is an excellent illustration of a mushroom pin at work.
(MIT guide can be found in the FAQs section)

sorry im a bit late... here is what is going on in your papaiz padlock.
you can clearly see the spool pins are in every chamber. The spool pins are small so they aren't too hard to bypas with light tension. The key is in so the pins are at the sheer line. Another tip that is very important to picking a papaiz...... i *think* all or most of the padlocks are keyretaining and they will only pick to the right. Good luck.
