Homemade Picks = good

Hey everyone, this is my first post here, but i have recently started to try to pick locks (well, only started today, inless we count those times where we untwisted a paper clip in stuck it in lock like on james bond when we were 8 or so.). Well anyways, so i dont have a real kit, but im using bobbypins (little hair clip things) on my weiser maximum security lock. Its a 5 pin deadbolt. Started with 2 and worked up to all 5 pins today. Just got the 5 pin one unlock twice. Is this good progress so far? and is there any way to get a lock pick kit to canada if im not a lisenced locksmith?

Is this a joke. I have a friend that picks any of the weiser locks in secounds. Funny LOL.

I started to order my kit but desided to get a little farther with FB first so that I have a little more understanding of picking being that they give me a couple of tools. I would suggest you get an el cheapo and then figure out what you like/dislike and go from there.

picking a deadbolt with bobby pins is not easy lol. perhaps you are a natural.

Im not certain paper clips and hairpins even qualify as 'homemade' picks, you need to look into threads on how to make picks, not mcgayvers.

I would tell you to make lock picks like raimundo said. And yes you are making progress if you are picking deadbolts with bobby pins which is really hard which depends how skilled you are or the lock that your picking. And you should also get some padlocks and work with those.

making you own picks is very easy. the best material i have found is the metal off windsheild wipers. its stainless but it holds up a lot better that what i expected and im a little heavy handed some times "still learning" it takes about 10 min to make a pick and good tension tool you can get used wipers commonly in the trash at the autopart stores

Raven, or anyone that can answer, is there a brand name or any particular wiper blade that you can recommend.I've bought a couple that have not been the right blade inside, Ive been trying to get the right one but everyone I've bought has been a little thinner than what we need for picks.If anyone could be brand specific it would be helpful.

Go to a mechanic and tell them you need the inserts for some artistic project you're doing (saying you're using them to make picks isn't really gonna get you far). I guarantee you, they'll either have some, or can keep some aside for you.
