Look at what my roommate built!

He has a background in carpentry, so I drew him up some rough plans, and this is what he built for me. The only lock that currently has any pins in it is the Kwikset on the far left, however, I've been using it for a bit now, and it seems to work great!

Here is the (very rough) schematic, should anyone be interested:

GAH! No "edit" button. Part numbers and prices are for Lowes, or at least the one in Kokomo, IN.

Nice job. Makes me think I might be able to do something with the back of a fold up metal chair.

Is that what you'd call a lockup?

:D
This is the internet:
You don't have to capitalize, you don't have to use punctuation, and you don't have to spell correctly. And you will not communicate effectively.

looks good to me, but if i were going to make a lockboard, then i would have it more realistic, wherein the deadbolts actually have the bolt part, and so that way i can get more used to the turning force needed to open the lock.

otherwise thats great.

oh, also, i cant help but think there is way more room for more locks all over that thing, just an idea though.

NIce set up, I'm in carpentry, slap crap together, you should see if your roommate can build a verticle set up, you can probably build a nice little attachment. I'm getting better as a carpenter, doing remodeling (island work for now)
Anyways, it would be interesting to see who can build or design the best locksmithing table set up, for general smithing use, explore the full uses, I think a nice and creative setup would be for rekeying and such, and for your practice locks of course.
SMall cubbies and drawers are very useful, anyways, food for thought, I like your set up and your ddr mat, and you should think about a good way to secure that file safe, I never really trust those things too much.
someone love me!

possibly

Postby raimundo » 21 May 2007 14:21

possibly some hinged sections that hold locks like the poster display things that used to be in some bookshop, newspaper joints. so you could flip through some leafs one with simple stuff, another with intermediate, and one with some hi sec. stuff. concept works for getting a lot of them in a small space, its expandible so you dont' need all those locks at the begining.

Depending on the spacing between the two rails, you could stick a mortice lock at each end, that would be neat.
Also you could drill some holes between the locks and use them to hold padlocks.

It's a nice little setup, and far better than the "virtual" one that I have on my long finger :-)
Nice job .
