wear and tear

Postby kharmic » 8 Aug 2007 15:53

after just a few pickings, the cheap padlocks I brought refuse to be picked. I feel like I probably got the technique down, especially considering it should be the same pattern every time for the same locks. Is it possible wear and tear has set in already? I was pretty careful to avoid excess force.

I agree with Proctor. Take a break then return to them with a clear head, frustration can easily set in when something isn't going or feeling right.

I agree with them, also try playing with the tension that plays a big role too. If that doesnt work try using a different pick or cleaning the lock.

you're right I imagine...in retrospect, the keys still open the lock so it should be working fine. thanks.

I take it by picking you mean picking and not raking or scrubbing?

Those cheapie, China made padlocks can be a major pain for a lot of beginners. It even still is for many experienced picker as well.

I don't know what it is but there was a thread on that very topic recently that discussed it. Just keep on trying and practicing and you'll get it.
If a lock is a puzzle, then its key is the complete picture

3 in 1 oil? is this some ratio, and if so whats the other part? Yeah, I'm keeping at it, but I might just buy some more cheapo ones.

3-in-1 is a brand name for a particular oil; any light machine oil would probably be fine. (Products like WD40 are not ideal.)

Hi,
3 In 1 - Is A Brand Name - You Can Also Use Just One Drop Of Any Machine Oil To Make It Work.

Just offtopic, but are you German or a teenager, who likes to write every word with capital start? It is easier to read if you write "normally" ;)

Don't take this as an offence, please. And welcome to the forum! :)

 Rai should have known better to have mentioned that,

A wipe on and then off with a cloth of your picks with a light oil is acceptable but NEVER put oil in th elock itself,

Hi Jaakko
Thanks and good to point on those things, from next time I'll definitely take care of that.
