American lock-what's this?

Postby jestersrobe » 2 Sep 2007 16:21

I'm new to lock picking, and have an American Lock padlock. I've picked it a couple of times, but have found a much easier way to defeat it. If I place my rake xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx (away from the pins) xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx without turning the cyllinder. Can anyone tell me what I'm actually doing here? This doesn't even require the use of a tension wrench. Thanks.

Edited by Schuyler - You have, indeed, discovered a bypass. I've removed the instructive parts of your post. You DO have an American Brand padlock. Feel free to PM me directly with any questions as to why this thread was closed. Congrats on picking it, they can be real bastages.

You're discussing a bypass which isn't open for discussion in the public forums.

On a side note, though -- good job on picking it normally! Americans can be tough for beginners.

It is a small padlock, made of brushed brass, and says "American Lock" on both sides. On the bottom (side with the keyhole) it says "China", and the locking arm says "hardened." I purchased this lock at a PX when I was in the Army, to secure my duffle bag. It would be very interesting to find out that it was an imposter American Lock, sold to me at a Federal installation. I suppose this thread should end, if this bypass isn't open for discussion here.
Thanks guys
