New combo lock troubles, any Ideas?

Postby Beauman » 22 Sep 2007 14:22

Hello again all, It’s been a long time since I last posted but you all know how life can get sometimes. Anyway, I manage a storage facility and that’s what got me into lock picking for obvious reasons (tenants moving out but leaving a lock on an empty unit for example) but I digress. I recently had the lock on our dumpster get lost and got it replaced with the exact same brand and type of lock. It’s a Brinks, 4 dial bottom combo lock that can be set to your desired combo. My problem is, this lock is very fickle and hard to set the combo on. I have tried several times, carefully following the instructions, to set the lock to the same number the other lock had, and I keep getting random combos set for some reason. I’ve been successful several times (thank God) finding the combo by guessing about where the sequence of numbers should reasonably fall, and doing the old “click, check, click check” which takes forever. My question is, is there any tricks to getting this close to the right sequence of numbers so I don’t have to go through a possible 10K combinations? Picture is enclosed, it’s model number 101-50052. Thanks in advance for any information you can give me. Bah, couldn’t figure out how to post the picture, sorry.
Nothing hits the spot like an ice cold homebrew.
