I was given this lock after my son's friend goofed up the combo.
I'm trying to crack the combo but I'm NOT asking how to.
What I need to know is how it works.
There is a "T" shaped end that fits into the notebook or laptop. Does this turn, push in or pull out?
Once I know this I will try to crack the combo.
Thanks in advance for any info.

That is one option that is have considered, but I don't know what moves on the lock.
Does the "T" turn, retract or extend.

If you're referring to the externally-visible "catch" that you insert into the laptop's security slot, then the answer is "none of the above": when the lock is unlocked, the "T" pivots from its base, moving towards the other half of the security-slot "catch". To the best of my knowledge, all laptop security cables work this way, regardless of the type of locking mechanism they employ (although I did check for you on a Targus cable).

My apologies: I stand corrected... I had only ever encountered one style of locking connector, but there are several different styles. However, from a look at the patents, the Targus combination locks all seem to work as described above. I don't wish to stray into a discussion of lock bypass, so I'll leave it at that.

I can't see ant type of pivot point. The "T" stands out and seems to move in or out. I'm not asking for a bypass, just which way the "T" moves. Once I find that out I'll try my best to unlock it.
Thanks

In the combination lock version with the plastic housing and the retractable cable, the "T" needs to be pulled out. While it's inside the lock housing, 2 pins go into the slot in the computer and prevent the lock from being turned. Once you set the correct combination, you can pull the "T" part out, then the whole lock can be turned and then removed.
Cheers,
mh

if you pull on the shackle of a combo lock then flick through the numbers starting from the last number moving to the 1st number you can feel when it gets stuck on a number then that is the number sometimes you can't feel much but if you are delicate enough you can maybe you could adapt this
p.s. i learnt this when i was a teenager me and my mates used to unlock them and change the combo the lock them back up to the bike then the people could not open them and get their bikes . he he he

What is the point of doing that to people? It's not nice.

That does not make it right, and it goes against the principles we go by as locksport enthusiasts.
