lock picking

Hello, im a noob to the lockpicking world. I have a few locks that I can impress my girlfriend with by picking them in a few seconds.

Here is my question,

I have a master lock No5. When I pick it I have slight tension on my wrench, slide my pick in and go for the pin farthest away from me(4..?), that is the one that seems to bind the most. What I then do is run my pick over that pin anywhere from 1 to 30times. After I get that pin the plug turns and the lock snaps open. Sometimes I have to slightly release some of the tension on my wrench to get it to go.

Is what I just explained there picking or something else like scrubbing??

Master locks are easy peesy to open, go get some high quality locks, then hang yourself upside down from the ceiling, and while you have one arm tied behind your back and the other holding the lock. Now try open the lock with the pick in your mouth, while trying to drink a beer at the same time.
If that don't impress your GF, then nothing will

If the fourth pin is the first binding pin then it can't be the pin that opens the lock when you set it (unless the lock has been modified to have only 1 pin).

What it sounds like is happening is that you are raking/scrubbing all of the pins and not just touching the fourth pin.

And that is a perfectly good technique to try. It will open a lot of "looser" locks (Master 3s, Master 5s, no-name brass padlocks, office furniture, etc).

Yea you are doing the right thing but masters No5 aren't that hard (it doesn't matter as long as your girlfriend is impressed)

It can't be wrong if it opens the lock

But I was surprised also that he would use that sort of pick in a snap gun.

I think that is my new advice to give to someone new to lockpicking. You can't be doing it wrong if it opens the lock up. very inspiring for those worried about doing things "perfectly right" from the get go.

Oh man... I was having a rough till til I read that LOL.... Yea the master I bought I literally picked the first time and that was within week one of my experience. I am getting shlage and kwikset this week... I am just starting and I need to not rush it. I may go out today if I can get away from watching Bit Torrent movie DL's....
