Jimmy Proof is stuck

Postby o_sleep » 1 May 2004 0:20

I have a Jimmy Proof dead bolt that has the steel plate closed over where the cylinder is supposed to go. Is there anyway to open it back up so that I can install it?

o_sleep,

Could you give me alittle more info on what type of Jimmy-proof lock you are working on. Jimmy-proof locks come in many forms.

Perseus® Single Cylinder

Postby o_sleep » 1 May 2004 0:51

It's a Perseus® Single Cylinder:

But I think the steel plate the slides over the opening where the cylinder is supposed to go is found in other Jimmy Proof locks (I guess they are also called Surface Mounted Dead Drops).

Yep, I have looked at this site. This site doesn't reference subtle difference that is in this particular Jimmy Proof lock.

I have been looking at a lot of different places and have found sites referencing this anti-tamper device:
http://groups.google.com/groups?hl=en&l ... cksmithing
http://builders-hardware.aubuchonhardwa ... curity.asp

But they don't say how to fix the lock once the curtain has been sprung.

Thanks for your help on this, though.

I guess it's called a
Rim Lock Shutter Guard,

How do you open a Rim Lock Shutter Guard, when it's closed?

How to open a Rim Lock Shutter when it has been closed

Postby o_sleep » 1 May 2004 13:45

I went back to the place I bought it from and they showed me how to open the shutter. When the Shutter (sometimes called "Steel Curtain") is closed there is a latch next to where the cylinder enters the Rim Lock (Sometimes called Jimmy Proof or Surface Vertical Deadbolt). This is illustrated where the X is in the following ASCII picture. Note that the knob (if it's a single cylinder) is pointed towards the computer, this image is from the orientation of the side of the lock that mates with the door.
Code: Select all
 ______________
|___           \
 ___|          |
|___      X    |==
 ___|          |
|______________/

The latch is located just above hole in the lock or the "X" in this picture. You may need to pry off the plate from the lock. Once you do, you will see the latch, just push it and push in the metal bar (the == in the picture) and the hole should open up.

You can now use the Rim Lock. Hope this helps.
