Problem with Abus Padlock

Postby tuningmaster » 28 May 2004 15:11

I bougth me a Abus 65/50 (5Pin with Security Pins). Now i have Problems with this lock :x . I found out that pin 2 and pin 4 must be special pins. I opened it 2 times without concentration during watching TV, but if I want to open it now it doesnt make "clickandopen". Could someone help me why it is like this?

I dont know that model but, does it have a re-keyable cylinder? Did you remove the cylinder?

btw- My best padlock does not go click when I open it. Maybe it did originally and I just forgot about it... It is a Master 911 weatherresistent 5 spool if that helps.

cheers

Get a mental picture of what is going on inside the lock. Feel the pins, probably spools. Picture what they are doing, if you know where they are find the pattern to the sets. Once all are either set or false set, work on the false set pins by relieving tension on the plug little by little until you can set the pin past the spools hollow.

These answers are good, but I must know why I cant open that lock if I use concentration, and without this (during watching TV) it makes sometimes "clickandopen". Only this lock makes me crazy. I have another lock like this and there is no problem to open it. Crazy :?

MY first lock I ever picked, I was picking it and my friend wanted me to look at something then it popped open. Usually whenever I htink about something that I want to happen and forget about it, it happens.
I love the *click*

Why you can do it when watching TV and not when you concerntrate. Basically it is the amount of tension normally. You stress too much when you pay attension and when you are distracted your tension normally loosens. Sometime when a security pin get stuck (ie you can turn the plug slightly) you sometimes have to slightly release tension and push the security pin all the way up. Look below at a great video on security pins.

While my own 65/50 is on my locker at the university right now, I seem to remember that it takes very light tension. Maybe it helps when you push the shackle into the lock, sometimes this makes the core easier to turn.

Abus locks can be a pain ...
five pin locks often pick in something like following order 23541414141

the last 2 pins are pretty far apart and usually both have spools.
Too much tension makes the lock turn a little one spool catches and you got a problem - taking only a little tension away and set that pin correctly works - if you have a feeling for it. A lighter tension helps preventing falsely set pins.
I know in theory, but nevertheless I got my problems with those locks

Cheers
